
Community involvement
Since its inception, The Peebles Corporation and its founder have worked to make positive contributions to the communities in which it operates. For R. Donahue Peebles, who grew up in a single-parent household in Washington, D.C. and Detroit, Michigan this is a personal as well as a corporate commitment.
These contributions include:
- Past Chairman of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- Yvonne Willoughby Poole Scholarship for African-American women at the University of the District of Columbia.
- The first permanently endowed scholarship for African-American students at Florida International University's School of Hospitality Management.
- Motivational speeches for non profit, business & educational groups.
- Mentoring of aspiring entrepreneurs from minority and impoverished backgrounds.
- Active recruitment of qualified minority executives for top management positions at the Royal Palm Hotel, one of Miami Beach's largest hotels.
- Active engagement in public policy and the political process.
